Introducing herbs benefits both you AND your garden! In this class, we'll learn how to grow and use 20 culinary and medicinal herbs suited for the southeast Michigan garden. We'll cover preservation techniques, basic medicine making and crafting such as herbal oils, poultices, infused honeys and vinegars plus more! We will also learn to identify and use common edible "weeds" and even a few plants to avoid.

In these class recordings, we will:
  • outline our class topics
  • learn how to preserve our herbal harvest with helpful techniques such as drying, freezing, and refrigeration
  • learn how to use herbs to create culinary delights such as teas, infused honeys and vinegars
  • learn about basic herbal medicine techniques such as poultices and compresses, oil infusions and salves, and alcohol tinctures
  • meet Caitlin's 10 favorite culinary herbs and 10 favorite medicinal herbs
  • identify several useful or edible "weeds" already growing in our garden
  • discuss several plants to avoid planting or to remove if we find them growing
